PUFFIN PHOTO WORKSHOP 2023
Witnessing puffins was one of the most magical experiences I’ve ever had—something that’s stayed with me long after the trip ended. My time at the workshop on Île aux Perroquets was truly unforgettable. Tucked away on a tiny island off the rugged northeastern coast of Canada, it felt like stepping into another world.
I stayed in the beautifully restored lighthouse keeper’s house, full of charm and character. It was warm, cozy, and the perfect place to unwind after long days out in the field. The food was absolutely incredible—each meal prepared with such care by the kindest women. Honestly, it was some of the best food I’ve had in years.
The puffin photography workshop was completely immersive. Being unplugged from the hustle of daily life allowed me to slow down, reconnect with nature, and be fully present. Every outing brought a sense of anticipation and wonder. Photographer and workshop leader Chris Dodds was always right there with us, making sure we were in the best possible spot to capture the moment. I can still hear him shout “FISH! FISH! FISH!” as a puffin swooped in with its beak full of fish—it brought out pure, childlike joy in me every single time.
This trip wasn’t just about photography—it was a soulful journey. I came home feeling inspired, grounded, and deeply grateful. It was truly the adventure of a lifetime.
