ESSENCE OF JAPAN 2024
Essence of Japan: A Journey Through Tradition, Nature & Culture
Returning to Japan after nearly 30 years was both a nostalgic homecoming and a thrilling rediscovery. Our last visit in 1995 left a lasting impression — the grace of its people, the beauty of its landscapes, and the quiet strength of its traditions. This trip, however, unfolded with new depth and perspective. From the moment we landed in Tokyo, we were immersed in a country that has evolved in many ways, yet remained firmly rooted in its cultural soul. Our journey took us from the pulsing heart of the capital to the serenity of the countryside, through ancient temples, vibrant markets, peaceful onsens, and historic towns — each stop a new chapter in a story we thought we already knew, now told with fresh meaning.
We began in Tokyo with sumo wrestling, Taiko drumming, and sushi at Tsukiji, then glided by bullet train to Hakone’s misty mountains and open-air art. At Gero Onsen, we stepped into the rhythm of traditional ryokan life. In Kanazawa and Takayama, we discovered craftsmanship and samurai history, while Hiroshima’s Peace Park offered profound reflection. Our final days in Kyoto — rich with golden temples, geisha culture, and moments of stillness — brought a sense of full-circle closure. This return to Japan was not just a revisit; it was a deeper connection to a place that continues to unfold, enchant, and inspire.
